Meantime the Carbon Tax will be collected at the gas pumps and redistributed to families for a redistribution of wealth after the tax man has taken his share. This will in no way have any effect on our so-called carbon foot print.
Interestingly, the tax is being applied on vehicles where we have already paid to reduce particulates via Catalytic Converters, High Compression Engines and Emission Control Systems on Big Trucks.
For Truck owners the Emission Controls have been costly both in truck price and significant downtime. The Transportation Industry has paid the price big time!
Now Truckers are paying again through a Carbon Tax which will make us less competitive. In addition, the incremental costs will get passed to the consumer, effectively eliminating any Redistribution Benefits.
As for the Ban on Single Use Plastics by 2021, it may be a hill to steep to climb, when one considers the benefits that plastics bring to society, particularly, in the food industry.
There is a Solution to all this that is frowned on by the Environmentalist, and that is Incineration, which has been used successfully world wide.
Only about 8 per cent of municipal waste in Canada is incinerated, one of the lowest proportions among developed countries, while
59 per cent in Switzerland, is incinerated
54 per cent in Belgium,
48 per cent in Denmark,
47 per cent in Sweden,
42 per cent in France, and
16 per cent in the United States. (the waste ends up in previously empty containers going to China and eventually finds its way to pollute the oceans)
80 percent of its 50 million tonnes of garbage is incinerated in Japan
94% of the plastic waste in Singapore was incinerated last year.
Canada has been hi-jacked by Environmentalists to our detriment. We bury perfectly good fuel in land fills, which is close to being criminal, when it could be used as fuel in conjunction with natural gas to create electricity.
Meantime, CO2 makes up only 400ppm of air or 0.04%, an infinitesimal amount, even if it were to double.
The key is to remove the Particulate Pollutants in the air which is done via the use of technology such as scrubbers for exhaust stacks, or emission controls.
Any Excess Carbon Dioxide will be devoured by plants, making for a more productive plant life, and food supply.
https://www.youvisit.com/tour/covanta/94489 Durham Incineration,,,, provides Electric Power for 10,000 homes,,,, so this is where Single Use Plastic should go rather then Burying Waste, or rather Perfectly Good fuel, in a Garbage Dump.
